Why we’re talking about food

The earth’s population could reach almost 10 billion by 2050. To feed humanity, using the processes we deploy now, would require an additional arable land mass twice the size of China. We don’t have that. But we do have truly inspirational scientists, governments, farmers, seed companies, and food manufacturers around the world collaborating on solutions.

It’s a daunting challenge. At the same time, the opportunity is mind-blowing. Over the next decade we will, without doubt, see both public and private investment pumped into all manner of inspired solutions: biologicals, precision breeding technologies, alternative proteins, and hopefully some sizable campaigns to attract talent to the increasingly high-tech profession of farming.

All these points explain why, in the early days of Casey Wishart, we decided to make food and agriculture key specialisms for our organisation. We are already relishing the impactful content we are producing for our clients in this space. We’ll share some of it next year. In the meantime, a big thank you to two truly remarkable women who shared their deep ‘in the field’ knowledge with us in Iowa last month, World Food Prize Laureates Heidi Kühn and Dr Cynthia Rosenzweig.
